T&P can design and manufacture rotary punch units to fit wide web presses, such as rotogravure, for custom applications. We have the capability to produce tooling up to 96" in width.

With over 50 years in the rotary punching industry, we have the knowledge and the experience to assist you with your rotary punching application.

"...I Didn't Know You Could Do That..."
How many times have we all heard that?! A good example of what T&P can do for its customers is demonstrated by our multi-station units. For example, a recent project involved a requirement for rotary punching, die cutting, perforating and slitting. All in one pass! T&P designed and manufactured such a unit for the medical industry which incorporated all these functions. A complete unwind/rewind system was manufactured for a 10" width which converted the material at up to 500 feet per minute. The tolerances on this machine were plus-or-minus 0.002" which was achieved by utilizing highly sophisticated manufacturing techniques. The customer was especially pleased with the end product and is already discussing a new business project with T&P for a similar tight tolerance requirement

T&P has the capability to produce a punch unit that will punch a matrix of holes spaced very closed together in straight lines or staggered as required. The photo shows a recent unit that punched 1/8" diameter holes on 5/16" centers.

In another application, a narrow web has several rows of very small holes (.045" diameter) punched in it. The unit had a cantilevered construction including a vacuum cup for waste removal.

High speed rotary punch unit to punch .080" diameter holes spaced .250" apart. This unit punched approximately 1300 holes per revolution.

T&P has designed and manufactured several punch units for converting aluminum foil lids on flexo presses. These units punch out and remove the complete lid from the foil web at speeds of up to 300 feet per minute. Volume of production is in the region of 250 million lids annually on a one shift basis, with punch changes needed only twice a year. Female dies will have a 10-12 year lifespan before replacement is necessary. This style of tooling can also be incorporated into T&P unwind/rewind systems.

The machine shown is an example of T&P's broad engineering capabilities. Pre-printed strips approximately 20" long x 2"" wide are manually fed into a housing cartridge. These strips are garment labels that need to be cut into individual labels and mechanically inserted into a box container. The machine was supplied with twin packaging chutes so that when one was full, it would automatically move to begin to fill the other. The system was designed to run at approximately 120 cuts per minute and to eject and dispose of scrap material.

The two pictures show a special converting application where T&P was approached by a major manufacturing company in the commercial construction industry with a proposal to design and manufacture a wide web rotary punch-and-crease unit for punching 30" wide, .015" thick paperboard. The tooling produces punched material which is then fused with a wire layer and becomes the foundation for a cement coating for ceilings in office buildings. T&P's punch unit included a creasing station to insert a continuous fold line through the punched holes on the material edges. The unit also contained a nip roller assembly to assist with tension control and a waste evacuation nozzle for efficient waste removal of punched holes using a power vacuum.
